Search Help

  1. Enter search terms in the Standards Store field to describe the document(s) that you need.
  2. Click the Go button.
  3. View the Search Results.  You can buy documents, add documents to a Wish List, or click the Doc Details link to view all of the document editions (history), read the description/abstract and view other pertinent information.

By default, the search field searches by matching all variations of the Document Number based on the term entered.  To search Document Numbers along with Titles, Keywords and Abstracts of the documents, click the Include Title/Keyword check box below the search field.

Document numbers can contain alpha and/or numeric characters.
Alpha characters can be entered as either upper or lower case — the text field is not case sensitive.
» Example:  a400 retrieves ASTM A 400, etc.

You will find the number entered, plus that number with any revisions, slash sheet specifications, notices, etc.
You will also retrieve documents where the number entered is the revision, slash sheet specification, or notice number.
» Example:  38510 retrieves MIL-M-38510, plus all slash sheet specifications, notices, etc.  In this example, you retrieve MIL-M-38510 J, MIL-M-38510/1 E, QPL-38510-2, etc.

You may enter an asterisk (*) wildcard at the beginning, middle, or end of a number:
» Example:  *123 retrieves A-A-50123, NF L87-123, XP ENV 1991-2-3. AN31231 REV 2, etc.
» Example:  12*6 retrieves T126, NAS 1206, NASM124786, TR 12596, etc.
» Example:  126* retrieves 126, 1261, 12607, etc.

Organization abbreviations are allowed in the search field, but they are not necessary.
For example, you can type ASTM, ASTM A 29, or A 29.  Of course the results will be different for each of these searches.
Alpha characters:  Enter as either upper or lower case — the text field is not case sensitive.

When you enter multiple words, documents are found containing all words — "and" is assumed between words.
» Example:  steel gate valve retrieves only documents containing all three words - steel, gate, and valve.  However, the words do not have to be together, or in the order that you typed them.

Use double quotation marks ( " ) to search for an exact phrase.
» Example:  "steel gate valves" retrieves only documents containing these three words, in this exact order.

Note:  Word variations are NOT assumed when you search for a phrase.  For example "steel gate valve" does not retrieve documents containing steel gate valves.
How do I create a Wish List?
You must be logged in.  Complete the registration if no login has been created.  To add items, click the "Add to Wish List" link for the document.  Look for the link underneath the document title on any of the results pages, document details, history list, or suggested documents page.

How many wish lists can I have?
Only one list per registered user.

How many items can be on my list?
Each Wish List will be limited to 1,000 documents.

Can other people see my list?
Your Wish List is personal and it can only be seen by others if you allow access.  If you're using a public computer, please log in to your account or create an account to protect your security.

How do I purchase items from my list?
For the document you wish to buy, click the "Add to Cart" icon next to the Hardcopy or Electronic version.  When you're ready to buy, click the "Checkout" button.  Remember, you can only purchase items from your own Wish List.

How do I delete items from my list?
Click the "Remove" link next to the document number. You can also use the "Remove All" button.  Documents will stay on your list permanently until you remove them.
What is the 'Order History' button?
This links you to the Purchased Documents List page.  Upon completion of your purchase, you will be provided with a link to download the document (you will have to understand and agree to the IHS terms and conditions).  You are authorized to access electronic documents for a period of 2 business days.

Why must I select my shipping country?
Several of the distribution contracts IHS maintains with its partners require that we honor certain territory or pricing restrictions based on where the order is to be shipped.  In order to satisfy these contractual obligations, we must ask all our web users to specify the country to which their orders will be shipped.  By selecting a country, we can accurately display pricing and availability information.

It is important to note that final pricing and availability will be based on the Ship To country selected in the registration process.  If the country selected in registration differs from the country initially selected upon entering the site, pricing and availability may change.

Why do some References show without links?
If the referenced document is not available in our system the link is not activated.

Why do I need to log in?
So you can add items to your cart or Wish List, and it keeps your shopping safe and private.  It also simplifies the process by saving your information for the Shopping Cart once you are ready to check out.

Why do you need my email and a password?
After you complete your order, we use your email address to notify you that we've received your order, and later when we have shipped it (for hardcopy documents).  Your password helps to keep your information safe.

How does IHS protect my privacy?
For the full IHS privacy statement, click the 'Privacy' link at the bottom of the page.
In an effort to protect their intellectual property and enforce existing copyright laws, many Standards Developing Organizations have required all distributors of their content to implement a security feature that prevents the reproduction and redistribution of downloaded documents.

In compliance with this request, we have implemented a security policy that utilizes a free Adobe Acrobat plug-in from FileOpen Systems, Inc.

Security Features:

Reproduction and Redistribution Restrictions:  This security system has been implemented through the use of a free Adobe Acrobat plug-in that "locks" the PDF file to the computer on which it was first opened.  Once a PDF file has been locked to a computer, it can be opened only from that computer.

Networking Restrictions:  Secure PDF files cannot be used in a multi-user, network environment.  If you are interested in purchasing 24/7 subscription access to individual standards, please contact your IHS Account Representative or call 800-716-3447 (USA/Canada) or +1-303-397-2896 (Worldwide).

Viewing Restrictions:  You will be required to download the free plug-in to view any secured PDF document.  Once the secure document is downloaded and saved to your computer, there is no limit to the number of times a document may be viewed on your computer.

Printing Restrictions:  The plug-in limits the number of times the document may be printed to one copy.  Since printing a part of the document is interpreted by the software as the one allowable print attempt, we recommend you print the entire document.

Copy & Paste Restrictions:  The ability to copy and paste text from the PDF file has been disabled.

Secure PDF Download Instructions:

» You have 2 business days to download the document(s) ordered.
» Click here to download the plug-in.
» The first time you attempt to view a purchased PDF document, you must confirm the plug-in was downloaded and installed by clicking Yes.

If you experience problems downloading the plug-in or document, or have additional questions regarding secured PDF files, contact our customer support department at 800-447-3352 (USA/Canada) or +1-303-397-2295 (Worldwide), or send an email to custsvc@ihs.com.

System Requirements:

» Your computer must be running a Windows operating system.  Supported Windows operating systems are Windows 98, 2000, XP or NT4.  Macintosh and Unix computers are not supported at this time.
» You must have Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader v4x, 5x or 6x.  Download the reader for free from www.adobe.com.
